DeepSeek launches multimodal model rivaling Anthropic

DeepSeek released DeepSeek-V4-Flash-Vision-Exp, an experimental multimodal model that adds image reading to V4-Flash. It beats Anthropic's Opus-4.8 on three of eleven benchmarks, trails on eight, and costs about 87 cents per million words versus roughly $50 from Anthropic.
