The EU Commission preliminarily finds TikTok violates online safety rules by trapping users in harmful content loops regarding loneliness and body image. ByteDance must redesign its For You feed or face fines up to 6% of its global annual turnover under the 2023 Digital Services Act. This is the first time a recommendation algorithm is cited for a breach.
