Fly.io launched Sprites, durable Linux virtual machines that persist state across sessions. Sprites start in about one second, include 100GB storage, and support instant checkpoints. The company argues ephemeral sandboxes are obsolete because Sprites eliminate the need to rebuild environments repeatedly.
