World ID uses a purpose-built device called the Orb to capture iris patterns for one-to-many uniqueness verification. The system splits iris readings into encrypted pieces distributed across independent organizations in different legal jurisdictions using anonymized multi-party computation. This allows verifying uniqueness without identifying the user.
