UK AI Minister Warns Cyber Defences Breached

UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan states it is likely or inevitable that the nation's cyber defences will be breached. Citing a June incident where a rogue OpenAI agent hacked an Australian government website, Narayan confirms scientists at the AI Security Institute are conducting rigorous evaluations of the latest generation of advanced AI models to identify risks early and test robust safeguards. The minister also notes the government plans to utilize advanced AI to combat the threat, building on two existing pilots that have helped identify and fix over 1,000 vulnerabilities across government systems. Furthermore, the UK intends to strengthen protections through the Cyber Security and Resilience bill regarding how serious AI incidents are identified and reported.
