AI animal stories rarely feature female leads

A University of Washington study found AI models rarely give animal story protagonists a female gender. Across 23,800 completions from six models, only 513 had female leads, about one in 46. GPT-5.1 and Gemini 2.5 produced the most male leads, at 65 and 63 percent.
