France's Tchap messenger breached, officials and hacker disagree on damage

France's sovereign encrypted messenger Tchap was breached on 7 June via a hijacked user account, not a system crack. Officials say only unencrypted public chats were exposed. The attacker claims access to 73,000 state agents, 643,000 messages, and 13.5 GB of data. ANSSI detected the compromise; DINUM blocked the account and notified CNIL.
