Researchers from the University of Maryland, Google DeepMind and Simon Fraser University developed IdeaLens, a detector analyzing ideas rather than words. The team collected about 1 million documents to train the system. IdeaLens correctly identified 91% of AI-generated documents while triggering false alarms on only 0.6% of human work. The study was published on arXiv in 2026.
