Devon AI Datacentre Backed Before Public Knew

Torridge district council privately backed Xlinks' 1.5GW AI datacentre from March 2025, sending a support letter in April before any environmental study or public consultation. The £13.8bn campus and battery site near Great Torrington would use up to 2.9bn litres of water yearly in drought. A petition against it passed 36,000 signatures; the government rejected a pause on 17 September.
