France tests tank-to-robot conversion kit

French defense firm KNDS and SME S2M Equipment unveiled the REFURBOT kit at the June 2026 National Infantry Days to convert retired tanks into unmanned ground vehicles. The demonstrator uses an AMX-32 prototype hull rather than a decommissioned fleet vehicle, raising questions about scalability for the Foreign Legion's 2nd REI unit.
