Russia Adds Apple and Microsoft to Surveillance Registry

On Oct. 2, Russia's Roskomnadzor regulator added Apple and Microsoft to its state surveillance registry. Companies on the list must store user communications and hand them to security services if asked. Several hundred companies are currently on the list, and those that ignore the rules risk penalties and eventual service limits in Russia.
