Low-e windows can reflect heat, start fires

Low-emissivity windows keep buildings warm in winter and cool in summer but can concentrate reflected sunlight if the glass is bowed. The curved glass acts like a magnifying glass, scorching wooden decking, melting artificial turf, and damaging plants. One homeowner moved a propane tank after three fires in one week traced to a neighbor's low-E windows.
