Researchers Talal Haj Bakry and Tommy Mysk found a Gatekeeper gap allowing attackers to replace downloaded macOS apps with malicious versions after initial validation. The technique works on web-downloaded apps like Brave and Slack but not Mac App Store apps. Apple closed the issue but considers the attack out of scope.
