Rivian's R2 was designed through subtraction, not addition, according to Chief Design Officer Jeff Hammoud. The cheaper R2 drops the R1's complex hydraulic roll control and air suspension. Engineers optimized the rear door for full glass drop without a division bar, reducing cost without punishing the customer.
