Solar Orbiter STIX Recalibrated Using Solar Flares

A new in-flight calibration of the Solar Orbiter's STIX instrument used 91 solar flares to measure tungsten grid X-ray transmission efficiency. The study, published in Solar Physics on 10 September 2026, found photon fluxes are about 13% higher than previous measurements. The recalibration improves internal consistency, with sub-collimator fluxes now agreeing within about 2%, while fitted flare temperatures remain unchanged.
