South Korea Deploys World's First Laser Air Defense

South Korea deploys Cheongwang, a laser weapon by Hanwha Systems, during an October 14, 2026 exercise. The system destroyed three drones for approximately $1.50 per shot, demonstrating low-cost interception without conventional ammunition. Hanwha also showed a 50-kilowatt mobile version at a September 16, 2026 exhibition in Poland.
