IIT, IIM startup founders drop in 2026

Only 79 IIT alumni and 20 IIM alumni launched tech startups between January and August 2026, down from 307 IIT and 71 IIM graduates in all of 2025, per Tracxn data. Total tech startups founded reached 6,353 this year versus 3,969 in 2025, with India holding 196,704 tech startups as of August 2026.
