LTO tape shipments slip 16 exabytes in 2025

LTO tape shipments fell to 160.3 exabytes in 2025, down nine percent from 2024's record 176.5 exabytes. The LTO Program, comprising HPE, IBM, and Quantum, attributes the decline to trade uncertainty. Q1 2026 shipments rose 57 percent year-over-year, boosted by a new 40TB cartridge.
