Wyoming Halts Helicopter Plan for Historic Tree

The Shoshone National Forest has paused a plan to helicopter a 133-year-old inscribed tree out of Wyoming's Washakie Wilderness. Public opposition arose after land managers failed to consult advocacy groups. The forest is now exploring a 3D scan and replica option to preserve the tree's history without removal. The original plan involved at least four helicopter landings in the protected area.
