Android 17 imposes stricter lock screen rate limits, allowing far fewer incorrect PIN or password attempts before lengthy lockouts. Google added a hard cap of 20 failed attempts, duplicate-guess detection, and clearer lockout messages. The protections were announced during The Android Show: I/O Edition in May.
