Physicists at Anthropic used Claude to compute a nine-loop scattering amplitude in N=4 super Yang-Mills, a toy model in theoretical particle physics. The result, verified by amplitudeologist Lance Dixon, beats a challenge blogger Matt von Hippel posted in August. Most such formulas reach only two loops, so the feat suggests AI can tackle computationally brutal frontier problems on a modest budget.
