MySQL offers five temporal column types: DATE, DATETIME, TIMESTAMP, YEAR, and TIME. TIMESTAMP uses 4 bytes but only supports dates from 1970 to 2038. DATETIME uses 8 bytes and supports a much wider range from 1000 to 9999. The choice depends on the data range and storage needs.
