India sets 2028 deadline for homegrown brand

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw set a deadline of October 23, 2028 for India to launch its own smartphone brand. The goal involves Indian design, manufacturing, and intellectual property to compete with Apple and Samsung. Vaishnaw noted a company previously delivered a 5G phone to a major US telecom operator, though the firm and operator names remain undisclosed.
