Over 737 Chrome Web Store extensions impersonated VPN brands like Proton VPN and NordVPN, routing traffic through SOCKS5 proxies on port 1082. Socket found 40 publisher accounts and nearly 75,000 downloads, mainly by Russian users. Google removed over 200, but 500 remain available.
