How Waymo got Chinese EVs onto American roads

Waymo's Ojai robotaxis, built in Ningbo, China, began public rides in San Francisco, L.A., and Phoenix this summer. Over 3,000 vehicles were imported, including 2,600 last year. Expansion to Denver, Las Vegas, and San Diego will push the fleet into the thousands, bypassing US tariffs and the Connected Vehicle Rule.
