xAI trained coding models on Claude outputs

xAI spent months distilling Anthropic's Claude to train its own coding models, according to The Information. After Anthropic revoked official access in January, xAI engineers continued through personal accounts and Blackbox AI. Internally, the pretraining team shrank to under five people, and four Grok code leads left within months. Musk previously admitted in court that xAI partially used OpenAI models to train Grok.
