METR API key theft burned $600K in credits

AI testing nonprofit METR disclosed two attacks from earlier this year. In March, an attacker stole an API key and consumed about $600,000 in free public-model credits over three weeks. A second May incident involved probing of public infrastructure, with no sensitive data accessed.
