Chinese Satellite Breakup Creates Long-Lived Orbital Debris

China's Yaogan-50 (02) reconnaissance satellite broke apart, creating 43 debris objects cataloged by the U.S. Space Force on September 4. The fragments orbit at 372 to 683 miles altitude, where decay could take centuries, risking collisions with other spacecraft.
