Vercel Researchers Find Linux Kernel Escape

On August 18, 2026, Vercel announced a $1 million challenge that led researchers to discover CVE-2026-99999, a critical Linux kernel vulnerability allowing guest-to-host KVM escapes. Using Omega-Pwn, the team found that untrusted checksum metadata could rewrite IPv4 headers after kernel validation, compromising host memory and isolation in many hypervisor environments beyond just Vercel's sandbox.
