Hackers exploited a vulnerability in an unencrypted Pentagon file-sharing system between October 2025 and mid-July 2026, stealing names, Social Security numbers, birth dates and military service details. The Defense Manpower Data Center is notifying about 2.8 million living service members and staff, plus nearly 300,000 deceased people. The Pentagon says it has no indication the data was misused.
