Major cloud software incidents fall into three unavoidable risk areas: saturation, networking, and security. Saturation, especially database overload, is hardest to recover from. Networking issues like DNS failures can black-hole requests. Security tradeoffs, including SSL certificate expiration, can block legitimate access. These risks persist because resources are finite and systems are distributed.
