Darktrace finds AI gateway hijacked for cryptomining

Darktrace detailed a cloud intrusion where a compromised LiteLLM proxy gateway with Amazon Bedrock access was hijacked to mine Monero cryptocurrency. The EC2 instance had SSH exposed on port 22 and pulled XMRig miner from an external endpoint. Darktrace detected the activity on June 12 and the instance was shut down.
