A study by TU Darmstadt and KIT projects that using iron powder could save approximately €18 billion annually by 2045 in Europe. The research suggests converting around 83 gigawatts of coal capacity to run on iron powder by 2045. This method allows seasonal energy storage of 58 terawatt-hours in summer to cover winter demand without new infrastructure.
