Google DeepMind launches global forest map

Google DeepMind and the World Resources Institute released ForTy, an AI map classifying 2020 global land cover at 10-meter resolution into six categories. The system achieved 90.2% overall accuracy and outperformed European Commission maps on test data. DeepMind introduced the underlying AlphaEarth Foundations model in July 2025 to combine satellite images, radar, and climate simulations for this environmental monitoring tool.
