AI audiobooks rated higher than human narrators

A study commissioned by AI audio company Spoken found that 61% of listeners rated Spoken's Multi-Cast AI narration favorably, compared to 53% for a human narrator. Edison Research surveyed 1,005 fiction audiobook fans in May 2026. Listeners did not know whether they heard AI or a human voice.
