Research that triggered U.S. export restrictions on Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models was for defense purposes, not offensive use, a cybersecurity CEO said. The Commerce Department barred distribution outside the U.S. and to foreign nationals in the U.S., forcing Anthropic to disable the models for all users.
