SEBI proposes new curbs as margin trading surges

India's markets regulator SEBI proposed new risk curbs and wider funding options for margin trading facility (MTF). Outstanding MTF positions reached about 1.3 trillion rupees ($13.78 billion) by mid-2026, roughly 50% higher than a year ago. SEBI proposed clearer broker exposure caps and allowing funding via non-convertible debentures.
