CERN Shifts 2,200 Systems to Debian

CERN will move over 2,200 industrial computers and embedded systems in its accelerator complex to Debian 13 by the end of 2026. The lab had tried to stay on the Red Hat ecosystem, but RHEL 9 and 10 raised x86-64 CPU baselines, breaking compatibility with custom accelerator hardware that cannot be easily replaced.
