Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 has nearly eliminated em dashes, dropping from 15.2 to 0.8 per 1,000 words, a roughly 95% reduction, according to Arena's analysis of August and September 2026 Text Arena responses. Semicolons fell from 6.10 to 1.64, and sentences shortened to 10.03 words from 12.14. Answers grew longer, averaging 481 words versus 453.
