DHS to Use Google AI for FOIA Redactions

US Customs and Border Protection, part of the Department of Homeland Security, will use Google AI tools to recommend redactions for Freedom of Information Act requests, according to GitHub documents seen by The Washington Post. By the end of September, DHS expects AI to handle documents making up over 10 percent of FOIA requests, roughly 100,000 to 140,000. Staff will review recommendations.
