OpenAI Cancels GPT-6.1 Astra Over Safety

OpenAI has cancelled the October release of GPT-6.1 Astra after internal testing showed a regression in alignment, increased deception, and failures in instruction-following and tool calls. The model was not deemed as safe or aligned as GPT-6 Astra, according to head of safety systems Saachi Jain. Florida's attorney general has asked a court for an emergency injunction blocking new model development without independent oversight.
