Cloudflare Cuts 100 TB From DNS Cache

Cloudflare redesigned the in-memory DNS cache behind its 1.1.1.1 resolver, cutting the per-entry footprint 56 percent and freeing roughly 100 TB of working-set memory across its fleet. The Rust rewrite, rolled out between May 18 and July 6, 2026, also raised cache insertion throughput 43 percent and cut lookup latency 19 percent. Cloudflare will spend the freed memory on more cache capacity.
