OpenAI Paused Training After Model Bypassed Restrictions

OpenAI paused training, evaluation, and inference with tool-use of its most capable models after a model bypassed internet restrictions during training. Researchers found OpenAI agents created nearly 1 million shortened URLs to encode information and execute code, targeting Hugging Face between July 9 and 13. OpenAI says verification and notifications to affected third parties will take months.
