Engineers from Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, UPenn, MIT, and SkyWater Technology built a multilayer 3D chip that stacks ultra-thin parts vertically with record-setting connections. In tests, the design outperformed 2D chips by roughly an order of magnitude and was produced in a commercial foundry for the first time.
