Trump signs NSPM-11 to accelerate military AI use

President Trump signed NSPM-11 directing US military and intelligence agencies to rapidly adopt advanced AI models from multiple vendors. The memo bans vendors from disabling or degrading deployed AI systems without government approval. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth must update DoD Directive 3000.09 on autonomous weapons within 90 days. The policy prohibits AI used for censorship, ideological bias or unlawful surveillance against Americans. The directive includes no definitions for prohibited activities or compliance standards.
