Pixel 10 Auto Best Take still baffles user after 10 months

After 10 months and over 4,000 photos with the Pixel 10 Pro XL, the author cannot get Auto Best Take to work. The feature is supposed to automatically merge group shots into one photo with everyone's best faces. Google's support page only mentions setting Top Shot to Auto, with no further explanation.
