Martin Kleppmann published an analysis of Redlock, a distributed locking algorithm designed for Redis. The analysis questions the safety guarantees of the algorithm, which orchestrates client-side multi-master fault-tolerant locks with auto-release capabilities. Redlock can also be implemented using MySQL.
