Gemini hits billion monthly users, trails ChatGPT

Gemini reached a billion monthly users on 11 August, ten weeks after ChatGPT hit the same mark on 3 June. OpenAI spokesperson Lindsay McCallum confirmed ChatGPT crossed a billion monthly users and hit a billion weekly in July. Gemini's count excludes AI Mode, which separately passed a billion monthly users.
