SEC Proposes Wider Retail Access to Private Assets

The SEC proposed rules on Wednesday to let hundreds of thousands of certified professionals, including accountants and financial analysts, qualify as accredited investors and buy private equity, credit and venture capital. Critics warn retail investors may not grasp fees and illiquidity. The three-member commission also proposed changes to performance fees and closed-end fund redemptions, opening a public comment period.
