NATO Tests Underwater Acoustic Network

Fraunhofer FKIE deployed a gateway buoy prototype during large-scale NATO exercises near Lisbon, Portugal, forwarding GUWAL underwater data packets to a shore operations center. The GUWMANET protocol achieved a 90% packet delivery rate in trials. Several weeks of sea trials will begin shortly to test the entire process for the SWAT-SHOAL defense project.
